1. What data do we collect?
User provided data: ToneCat collects the following data if/when you provide it directly to us:
Additional Data Not Collected: The following data is created and stored in your browser’s local storage, but is NOT collected by ToneCat:
- UI color preferences (example: light mode, dark mode)
- User presets (example: metronome rhythm presets)
Data automatically collected: Some information — such as your Internet Protocol (IP) address and/or browser and device characteristics — is collected automatically when you visit our site. Some of this information is tracked by our web hosting provider (Hostinger), and through Google Analytics. You can opt out of allowing us to collect this information either by not using our Services, or limit access by turning off analytics related cookies by clicking here on Manage Cookies (also found in the footer of every page of our site). Sensitive Information: We do not process sensitive information.
If you believe a certain data type is missing from the lists above, please contact us and we will answer any questions and update the Privacy Policy where necessary.
2. How do we use your data?
We use your data for the following reasons:
- To deliver and facilitate delivery of Services to the user. We may process your information to provide you with the requested service.
- To identify usage trends. We may process information about how you use our Services to better understand how they are being used so we can improve them.

- Legitimate interests (analytics, site improvement)
- Consent (when you provide email/username voluntarily)
3. How do we store your data?
ToneCat securely stores your data (email address) within our web host’s (Hostinger) database. In the future, we plan to securely store your data (email address, username, user presets) using PostgreSQL on Supabase as we begin to phase in basic user accounts, at which time we will update this section (and other relevant sections) of this Privacy Policy. Currently, any usernames and presets data are not stored on our servers, and are only saved in the local storage of your device’s browser.
4. When and with whom do we share your data?
We share data only with:
- Google Analytics (website usage analysis)
- Hostinger (web hosting and server logs)
- Legal authorities (if required by law)
5. What are your data protection rights?
ToneCat would like to make sure you are fully aware of all of your data protection rights. Every user is entitled to the following:
- The right to access: You have the right to request ToneCat for copies of your personal data. We may limit the number of times this request can be made, depending on the size of the request.
- The right to rectification: You have the right to request that ToneCat correct any information you believe is inaccurate, or to complete any information you believe is incomplete.
- The right to erasure: You have the right to request that ToneCat erase your personal data (except where we have legal obligations to retain it, such as preventing fraud, or defending legal claims).
- The right to restrict processing: You have the right to limit how ToneCat processes your data.
- The right to object to processing: You have the right to object to ToneCat processing your personal data.
- The right to data portability: You have the right to request that ToneCat transfer the data that we have collected to another organization, or directly to you.

6. Cookie Policy and Tracking Technologies
We use cookies and similar tracking technologies to maintain site functionality, security, and to analyze website usage through Google Analytics. The types of cookies are:

We retain personal information as follows:
- Email addresses: Until you request deletion
- Analytics data: 26 months (Google Analytics default)
9. How do we keep your information safe?
In Short: We aim to protect your personal information through a system of organizational and technical security measures.
We have implemented appropriate and reasonable technical and organizational security measures designed to protect the security of any personal information we process. However, despite our safeguards and efforts to secure your information, no electronic transmission over the Internet or information storage technology can be guaranteed to be 100% secure, so we cannot promise or guarantee that hackers, cyber-criminals, or other unauthorized third parties will not be able to defeat our security and improperly collect, access, steal, or modify your information. Although we will do our best to protect your personal information, transmission of personal information to and from our Services is at your own risk. You should only access the Services within a secure environment.
10. Do we collect information from minors?
In Short: We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 and operate as a general audience website.
Our General Audience Services: ToneCat operates as a general audience music tools website intended for musicians of all skill levels. We do not direct our services toward children under 13, nor do we knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 years of age.
Educational Use: We recognize that music teachers may direct students to use our tools for educational purposes. If you are an educator, you are responsible for obtaining any necessary parental permissions before directing students under 13 to use our Services.
If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 13 without parental consent, we will take reasonable steps to delete such information promptly. If you believe we may have collected information from a child under 13, please contact us immediately at support@toncat.io.
Age Restrictions: While our Services are designed for general audiences, users under 18 should obtain parental permission before providing any personal information or creating accounts connected to our Services, as they should do with any websites requesting their personal information.

In Short: We may update this policy as needed and will notify you of material changes through appropriate channels.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, services, legal requirements, or other factors. The updated version will be indicated by a revised "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy.
